Countryside Stewardship 2022 Applications
February saw the opening of the window for this years Countryside Stewardship (CS) applications and we are urging farmers and landowners to undertake an early review of their options before Mid Tier applications close on 29th July. Whilst the deadline may seem some time away, uptake is expected to be high again this year and some options require the approval of Natural England or Catchment Sensitive Farming Officers who are already very busy.
There have been a number of simplifications to the application process and increases in payments for some management and capital options. With the phased reduction of BPS payments it is increasingly important that farmers look to replace lost support however possible. Whilst the replacement Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme is expected to commence roll out during 2022 this should not prevent new CS applications.
Many of the management options don’t require an enormous amount of additional input on a day to day basis and will bring real benefit to the environment as well as the bottom line.
We are able to support with the CS application process online and can advise on implementation of the best options for your enterprise. We have also worked closely on a wide range of cover crop/wild bird seed trials over the last 5 years and can support with the best choice and suppliers of specialist seed mixtures.
